Good Morning! It’s Monday morning here in my part of the world. It’s also the last week of summer school holidays for my kids. They are all back to school next week and I am so not looking forward to them going back 🙁 I enjoy having them at home, even when they make me crazy!
So finishing off my last blog post I was going to tell you all about the 365 Granny Square a Day project I had started. I was looking for a project to advance my crochet skills and found this online, I thought it was the perfect project to teach me new stitches and it would be fun with all the stitch and colour changes in each square!
The first 2 squares I chose the colours, I was trying to follow along with the project, but as my yarn collection grew, so did the choices of colours I could use for the squares.
So after the 2nd square, I decided to let my children choose the colours for each square, I had the idea of getting them involved because once the squares were all made, I was going to join them all and make a big blanket for them. The only rule I gave them was that one colour from each square had to be the same as used on the previous square, so they chose to keep the pink from the 2nd square to use on the next one. They chose the colours for all of the next squares that I made, they also ending up choosing the sequence the colours were used in.
Most of the time, they put a lot of thought into choosing the colours, they’d look at the pattern and go through my yarn stash choosing colours they thought would be perfect for the square, sometimes, when they couldn’t be bothered, they’d just grab a few random skeins from the cupboard and put them in any order lol! But somehow their choices always worked! They’ve had a lot of compliments on their colour choices, which has always put a huge smile on their faces and mine!
Below you’ll find pictures of each square with the details of where you can find the pattern for each one, see if you notice which colour was carried on from the previous square!
And that’s as far as I got with the squares! I tried making other things, I had a go at planned pooling, making a sampler blanket and made a few mandalas. I just recently finished a big chunky yarn rug. I’m currently making the next 4 squares in the Art of Crochet subscription I have, then I might just pick up this 365 Granny Square a Day project, but there are also a couple CAL projects that I found on Instagram that look pretty interesting too!
When I do go back to the granny square a day project, I have it all ready, printed and stored in a clear plastic case, I’m pretty organised like that!
Looking at the next few squares, I realise I’ve missed making them. I think what puts me off is knowing that I’ll eventually have to join them all!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, I will post more about the next few squares, colours I’ve used and where to find the patterns in future posts.
Thanks for reading! Wishing you all a wonderfully creative week ahead!
